CNRS, Centre National d e la Recerche Scientifique (National Centre for Scientific Research) is the principal funding organisation for fundamental research in the natural sciences in France. CNRS employs around 25,000 scientists, technical and administrative research personnel in universities and specialised CNRS research centres in France. The Institut National des Sciences de l’Univers (INSU, National Institute for Universe Science) within CNRS focuses on earth sciences, ocean sciences, astronomy and astrophysics. It is responsible for funding, management and policy development of large international infrastructure projects involving these domains
