Community review is now open for the first draft of “How to be FAIR with your research data – a teaching and training handbook for higher education institutions”. Developed as part of the FAIRsFAIR, the handbook aims to support the practical implementation of content relating to the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles in university curricula and teaching by providing practical material, such as lesson plans, and supporting information. It is primarily targeted at university teachers, educational programme managers, curriculum designers and other stakeholders involved in facilitating teaching at higher education institutions, but could also be of interest to a wider audience involved in teaching and training on Research Data Management (RDM) and the FAIR principles in different contexts.
The handbook was written and edited by a group of about 40 collaborators in a series of six book sprint events and a subsequent editorial process organised by the FAIRsFAIR under the lead of the University of Göttingen. It is being developed within the project’s efforts to support the integration of RDM and FAIR data-related content and skills in university teaching and is complementing the FAIR Competence Framework for Higher Education published earlier this year.
To make sure that the handbook meets the needs of the target audience, we are inviting university teachers, educational programme managers, data practitioners and other professionals involved in the design and implementation of higher education programmes (or RDM/FAIR training in other contexts) to provide their feedback and input to the draft document. This will inform the next iteration of the handbook which will be presented at an online workshop on “Practical implementation of FAIR-related content in university curricula and teaching” on 12 October 2021.
The consultation will close on 12 September 2021.
