H2020: European Fund for Strategic Investments ready for take-off in autumn

The European Commission has developed a package of measures so that the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) will be up and running by early autumn 2015.
Established by the Junker Investment Plan for Europe, ESFI will ensure more and faster access to finance for innovative SMEs in the context of Horizon 2020. At least €30 billion will be made available to innovative SMEs and small mid-caps.

In addition to this, another important agreement to support innovation in Europe has been signed by the European Investment Bank and the European Investment Fund. The InnovFin SME Venture Capital facility will co-finance investments by business angels in innovative SMEs and small midcaps that predominantly aim to commercialize new ICT-related products and services. Run as a pilot scheme, the European Union have initially committed €30 million to the scheme which is expected to generate up to €120 million in investments.
