EBDVF2022: At the Heart of the Ecosystem for Data and AI

15 Dec 2022

On 22-23 November 2022, the European Big Data Value Forum (EBDVF22) took place in Prague. Trust-IT has been working around the themes of cloud computing from a scientific research community side with its efforts in the European Open Science Cloud EOSC, cloud procurement with OCRE.eu and more, to the more commercially oriented efforts cloud, edge, and IoT may bring to businesses, and we look at this within the Horizon Europe EUCloudEdgeIoT.eu as well as the H2020 efforts with specific pilots of PolicyCloud.eu, both actively present at the event.

EBDVF22 brings together industry professionals, business developers, researchers and policy-makers from all over Europe and other regions of the world to advance policy actions and industrial and research activities in the areas of Data and AI. This year’s theme was "At the Heart of the Ecosystem for Data and AI".

On Tuesday, November 22 at 17:30 CET, EUCloudEdgeIoT.eu organised a 60 mins session exploring some critical themes for the emerging Cloud/Edge/IoT Continuum, such as technical software and network infrastructure; data storage, sharing, protection and management; sustainability and the digital/green twin transition; communities, markets, and interoperability. Several consortium members joined the session, such as IDC and Martel Innovate.

On the same day, Policy Cloud also organised at 11:00 CET a one-hour session “Making data-driven policy management a reality across Europe” which showed the work done by the project so far, with the presentations of two pilots’ representatives and technical partners, followed by a real active and interesting discussion with the speakers. The project was also involved during the three days of the event, with a booth shared with ITANNOVA (one of the consortium’s “Research & Academia” partners.

Main Highlights

Both projects received visibility thanks to their sessions and the active networking of several project partners who promoted the initiative. In both sessions, an audience of approximately 30/40 people joined the session and participated in the Q&A discussion.

The session organised by EUCloudEdgeIoT.eu explored relevant themes for the Cloud/Edge/IoT Continuum and outlined Europe’s current attempt to build and bridge the digital landscape for seamless data management and analysis. The main topics touched upon by the speakers included:

  • technical software and network infrastructure;
  • data storage, sharing, protection and management;
  • sustainability and the digital/green twin transition;
  • communities, markets, and interoperability.

The activities planned under these initiatives will enable reliable, energy-efficient and secured data sharing and data management across the computing continuum, which will pave the future for developing Meta Operating Systems and solutions.

As a medium-sized event (about 200 people), EBDVF22 allowed quality discussions among participants and reinforced networks with people deeply engaged with the cloud, edge and IoT universe or with enabling technologies like AI. In addition, representatives of other projects co-developed by Trust-IT were also part of the discussion, allowing the creation of meaningful encounters with featured consortium members of projects such as BioDT.eu, HSBooster.eu, Adra-e.eu and StandICT.eu.

Our role

As the leader of both projects’ communication work packages, Trust-IT acted as the primary outreach interface at EBDVF22, co-representing EuCloudEdgeIoT.eu and PolicyCloud.eu.

As part of EUCloudEdgeIoT.eu’s outreach strategy, in the following months, Trust-IT will work on the development of animated infographics illustrating how use cases act in the cloud-edge-IoT Continuum and contribute to the definition and positioning of these technologies in Europe. Moreover, in the following months, Trust-IT will collaborate with IDC to develop a digital radar system to map use cases and define their market readiness through an adoption-readiness framework.

The Policy Cloud expertise, together with Trust-IT, which coordinates the work on communication, exploitation and standardisation, has been demonstrated in three thematically distinct Pilot use cases run in diverse European cities and regions, positively impacting both the economic growth and the lives of the citizens. In this final event, the Policy Cloud project showcased how data-driven policymaking has now become a fact in the different public administrations and how this has impacted the policymaking lifecycle and their communities. Moreover, the spotlight was on the urgency of instigating in the policymaking stakeholders the use of tools and services that can help them to improve the cities' urban and business models.
