FAIRsFAIR at International FAIR Convergence Symposium 2020

23 Nov 2020

The International FAIR Convergence Symposium will provide a unique forum for advancing international and cross-domain convergence around FAIR and will convene a global community with an interest in combining data across domains for a host of research issues - and in the face of major global challenges such as those relating to the SDGs or the COVID-19 pandemic.

The outcomes from the symposium will address fundamental issues such as an improved alignment with parallel and emerging data initiatives around the world and lessons learned during the virus outbreak in relation to international research data sharing and the role of FAIR. These outcomes will directly inform the CODATA Decadal Programme 'Making data work for cross-domain grand challenges’ and the GO FAIR community’s convergence towards bottom-up development of the Internet of FAIR data and services globally.

The approach in many sessions will be detailed and technical, resulting in recommendations, consensus for action, and draft implementations.

Participation is open to ALL researchers, data experts, funders, and science policy makers.

Programme

The programme includes keynotes and/or plenary sessions introducing each of the four themes: CRISIS REDUCTION, FAIR SPECIFICATIONS, FAIR SOCIETY, FAIR STEWARDSHIP, parallel sessions of various formats (paper sessions, workshops, interactive practical sessions and demos), and a plenary poster session. A plenary panel discussion will close the second day of the Symposium.

FAIRSFAIR SESSIONS

The following FAIRsFAIR submissions have been accepted for inclusion amongst the breakout sessions:

Data Stewardship and FAIR Competences in Academic Curricula
30th November 2020, 15.00 - 17:00
organised by: Lennart Stoy (EUA), Yuri Demchenko (UvA) - FAIRsFAIR

The session brings together national, European and disciplinary initiatives and projects that work on the development of RDM-related competence frameworks and education and training actions for FAIR research data management (FAIRsFAIR, EOSC Working Group Training & Skills, ELIXIR, Danish National Forum for Data Management (DM Forum)). The workshop will be composed of two parts. The first part will consist of presentations of existing frameworks and initiatives to share experiences and good practices. The second part will be interactive, supported by Mentimeter, and engage the audience in a discussion about suggested levels of competences as well as stakeholders and approaches to teach data management in higher education curricula. The results of the interactive discussion will inform the ongoing work of FAIRsFAIR to develop a FAIR competence framework for higher education curricula.

Making your repository more FAIR-enabling
2nd December 2020, 11.00 - 13:00
organised by: Claudia Behnke (SurfSara), Joy Davidson (University of Glasgow), Robert Huber (University of Bremen), Elizabeth Newbold (Science and Technology Facilities Council), Ilona Stein (DANS-KNAW) - FAIRsFAIR

FAIRsFAIR has just introduced new tools and software to help researchers, research support staff and repository service providers to assess the level of FAIRness of datasets. FAIRsFAIR also provides support for FAIR-alignment and interoperability to selected repositories. This workshop will share some of the ongoing work of the FAIRsFAIR project to: improve the trustworthiness of repositories through CoreTrustSeal certification and FAIR alignment, improve the interoperability of repositories, increase data stewardship skills and capacity and assess FAIR data in trustworthy repositories. The session is targeted towards repository service providers and research support staff.
