On the occasion of World Ocean Day, the Blue-Cloud Virtual Research Environment (VRE) is set to unveil two new Virtual Labs as part of its ambitious 2026 project. These labs aim to enhance our understanding of carbon-plankton dynamics and integrate coastal ocean observations across Europe. The Blue-Cloud VRE, accessible through the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), offers researchers the opportunity to leverage multidisciplinary datasets from the Blue-Cloud Data Discovery & Access Service (DD&AS).

Blue-Cloud Training Academy hosted the webinar on 8 June 2023 from 14:00-15:00 CEST, where participants will delve into the intricacies of these new Virtual Labs. The first lab, "Carbon-Plankton Dynamics," builds upon the existing Nutrient-Phytoplankton-Zooplankton-Detritus (NPZD) model from the Zoo and Phytoplankton Essential Ocean Variables (EOV) Virtual Lab. By integrating additional data from various regions and introducing a carbon sequestration component, this lab aims to advance our understanding of the complex interplay between carbon and plankton.

We will also discover a brand new VLab on "Integration of Coastal Ocean Observations along Europe," which focuses on compiling and integrating European Coastal Ocean Data from initiatives such as JERICO and Blue Data Infrastructures. This lab will generate FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data products and provide analytical tools for users to explore data in three thematic services: transboundary processes and connectivity along European margins, extreme events, and ocean glider observations.

The webinar is open to all interested participants and offers a unique opportunity to learn about the cutting-edge research taking place within the Blue-Cloud VRE. By attending, participants will gain insights into the latest advancements in oceanographic research and the utilization of virtual laboratories for data analysis. Registration for the webinar is free, and participants are encouraged to secure their seats promptly.

The Blue-Cloud VRE's expansion with these new Virtual Labs signifies a significant step forward in ocean research and data integration. By leveraging the power of the European Open Science Cloud and multidisciplinary datasets, researchers can unravel the complexities of carbon-plankton dynamics and enhance our understanding of coastal ocean observations across Europe. The Blue-Cloud Training Academy's webinar promises to be an enlightening event, equipping participants with valuable knowledge and insights into the fascinating world of oceanography.
