All Hands on Deck: Blue-Cloud docks in Pisa

28 Jul 2022

The Blue-Cloud consortium finally had the occasion to meet once more in person for a ‘hands on’ meeting devoted to addressing key issues for the future of the project, funded under the "Future of Seas and Oceans Flagship Initiative" of EU HORIZON 2020 as the thematic EOSC for the marine domain, serving the Blue Economy, Marine Environment and Marine Knowledge agendas.
Some two years after the kick-off meeting was held in October 2019, the Coordinator, Trust-IT Services, had the pleasure of once more hosting the 20-strong partnership from all over Europe in its hometown of Pisa.  With the project now in its final phases, the community fully exploited the occasion to reflect on the successful delivery of its main assets, the Data Discovery & Access Service and the Virtual Research Environment, as well as the multidisciplinary Virtual Labs.
The meeting started on Monday 30 May, with afternoon sessions dedicated to Work Package updates and the evolution of services, including analyses of user adoption, and the increasing interfacing with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). The day ended with a showcase of all Virtual Labs, featuring the most relevant changes and feedback from user communities.
Day 2 (31 May) clearly focussed on the way forward, as partners worked on fundamental issues such as exploitation and sustainability of the Blue-Cloud assets, as well as the synergies established with other initiatives such as FNS-Cloud, EuroSea, and more. The Blue-Cloud Strategic Roadmap to 2030 was another major topic for discussion, given that the second round of public consultation had recently closed, providing precious insights from the wider community on the way forward for the project.
Day 3 (1 June) was devoted to a half-day of discussions and deliberations from Technical Committee, which has built on best practices and lessons learned from two and a half years of intense collaboration.
The physical presence of the Project Partners at this long-awaited meeting in-person was key to its success, with plenty of time also during breaks and social events to interact on a one-to-one basis!

Our role

Trust-IT is the Project Coordinator and leads the activities on “Communication, Stakeholders Engagement & Uptake of Blue-Cloud VRE & services”.

This means that TRUST-IT provides consistent and content-rich communication and dissemination of Blue-Cloud results to its relevant stakeholders, by using multiple integrated communication tools, for the roll-out of the Blue-Cloud services and demonstrate impact in the Blue Economy and the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). This is done through a “Communication, Dissemination & Stakeholders Engagement Strategy & Plan” which covers several communication activities: branding, communication materials (flyers, videos, posters, amongst others), website, social media channels, newsletters, organisation of Blue-Cloud events and presence at third-party events, training activities, and the creation of win-win synergies to enhance the scientific and economic potential and exploitation opportunities of the Blue-Cloud services, demonstrators and applications.
