Trust-IT’s strengthened support for the EU marine data initiative EMODnet in 2022-23

The successful collaboration between Trust-IT and the EMODnet Secretariat will continue for another two years, as the consortium has renewed key tasks to be undertaken to support the EMODnet digital communication activities in an increasingly dynamic ocean science landscape.

The European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet) was launched back in 2009 and is a network of organisations working on ocean data ranging from biology to chemistry, from physics to geology, and more. These organisations work together to observe the sea, process the data according to international standards, and make that information freely available as interoperable data layers and data products.

The EMODnet Secretariat was established in 2013, it is led by Seascape Belgium and funded by the European Commission to coordinate the development of the EMODnet Central Portal, while supporting the management and promotion of the many EMODnet projects and outputs.

Bringing the ocean closer to you

Trust-IT has provided services to the Secretariat since 2018, focusing on communications and web design and development. In fact, in 2021, Trust-IT performed the complete repatriation of the EMODnet Central Portal for DG MARE of the European Commission. A major highlight of our journey together certainly was the creation of the 10th anniversary “special edition” of the EMODnet annual report in 2019.

Our support over the next two years will focus on three main areas:

• Communications and visual design, including infographics and the upcoming editions of the annual report.
• Web development on the EMODnet Central Portal and integrating thematic websites.
• IT support on a range of aspects such as monitoring progress, analytics, and UX testing.

We are looking forward to further enhancing the outputs of one of the most active marine data communities in Europe, sailing through the EU Mission Ocean and Waters and the UN Ocean Decade.

Our role

Trust-IT supports the EMODnet secretariat on three defined objectives:

1. the development of the EMODnet web presence via a website redesign and maintenance;
2. the improvement of the technical monitoring system;
3. the production of the EMODnet annual reports.

In order to increase the visibility and identity of EMODnet towards its key stakeholders, Trust-IT is also in charge of the content animation of the EMODnet website and of the Maritime Forum website.
