4th DestinE User eXchange – Driving User-Centric Innovation in the Digital Earth Era

Be part of the growing community shaping the future of Destination Earth (DestinE).
Join us for the 4th DestinE User eXchange, taking place on 25 and 26 June in Vienna, during ESA’s Living Planet Symposium (LPS).
This engaging two-day event will bring together users, developers, researchers, and policymakers to explore the latest advances in the DestinE ecosystem and share real-world experiences with DestinE’s digital twins.
Following successful editions in Frascati, Bonn, and Darmstadt, the User eXchange continues to evolve as a dynamic platform for dialogue and collaboration. Organised by ESA, this year’s edition will spotlight cutting-edge applications and user-driven innovation, while providing attendees with unique opportunities to engage with the three implementing entities – ECMWF, ESA, and EUMETSAT – as well as the European Commission’s DG CNECT.
The programme features visionary keynotes, technical sessions, panel discussions, and poster presentations.
Day one will include updates from key representatives, including Irina Sandu (ECMWF), who will present the latest developments on the Digital Twin Engine and DestinE’s two flagship digital twins: the Climate Change Adaptation Digital Twin (Climate DT) and the Weather-Induced Extremes Digital Twin (Extremes DT).
Experts Benoît Vannière and Sebastian Milinski (ECMWF) will moderate dedicated sessions showcasing how these digital twins are supporting real-life applications – from energy and disaster planning to urban climate resilience.
On the second day, the focus will shift to users – how their feedback is shaping DestinE services, improving accessibility, and expanding the platform’s capabilities. Highlights include a session on accessing DestinE data, with Tiago Quintino (ECMWF) introducing the polytope service, and a forward-looking discussion with Jörn Hoffmann (ECMWF), EUMETSAT, ESA, and the European Commission on upcoming user-centred enhancements.
Beyond the User eXchange, DestinE will also feature prominently in the broader LPS programme, including four sessions on digital twin innovation, co-convened by Jörn Hoffmann, Tiago Quintino, ESA, and EUMETSAT.
Registration is open until 18 June 2025. On-site participants must also register for LPS (walk-in registration available in Vienna). Remote participation is possible.
Don’t miss your chance to connect, collaborate, and help shape the digital future of our planet.
