Challenge

In 2015 the vision of a European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) emerged. EOSC would provide an open and trusted environment for accessing and managing a wide range of publicly funded research data and related services, helping researchers reap the full benefits of data-driven science.

EOSC is now fully in its implementation phase (2021-2027) which requires active engagement and support to ensure widespread implementation and adoption of the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles, to define and share standards and develop tools and services, to allow researchers to find, access, reuse and combine research results.

With the ambitious goal to realise an EOSC of FAIR data and services, the FAIR-IMPACT project responds to these needs by supporting the implementation of FAIR-enabling practices, tools and services across scientific communities at a European, national and institutional level.

Solutions

Leading the project activities on dissemination, exploitation and communication, Trust-IT has complete responsibility over developing and running an effective outreach and engagement strategy to facilitate adoption of FAIR-IMPACT tools, recommendations and outcomes across the project stakeholders. This includes:

  • Maintaining a coordinated and continued communication of the FAIR-IMPACT initiative, including an up-to-date website and Social Media channels;
  • Delivery of a custom Trust-Grants™ platform for the communication and technical management of open calls running in the framework of FAIR-IMPACT support programme;
  • Support the organisation of focused workshops, webinars and stakeholder-tailored events, with a concertation focus on relevant initiatives, and ensure their widespread dissemination across EOSC thematic communities;
  • Distribute FAIR use cases and implementation stories to encourage new research communities, national level initiatives and other stakeholders to engage with EOSC and enable FAIR;
  • Facilitate collaboration and coordination mechanisms via the Synchronisation Force workshop series, to maximise the impact of the project by synchronising with related projects and initiatives in the EOSC framework
  • engaging FAIR Champions as ambassadors, multipliers and disseminators of the FAIR-IMPACT outputs
  • boosting dissemination and impact of the FAIR-IMPACT solutions at national and regional level via the National Roadshow series
Results

As of June 2024:

  • Three Synchronisation Force workshops series (2022, 2023, 2024) mobilising representatives of all EOSC related Horizon Europe projects, leading to final reports as a basis for a white paper
  • 13 EOSC FAIR Champions selected to act as ambassadors for FAIR and engaged across their communities, to advocate for the adoption of the project results are pretty active across different activities of the project
  • Organisation and support to organisation of 25 events and workshops, including FAIR-Implementation workshops, webinars, workshops and open call related events, and participation to 26 events (virtual or physical)
  • Effective promotion of the four open calls for support launched so far - two for financial support and two for in-kind support
  • A FAIR Implementation catalogue or resources available for users to identify tools and solutions most appropriate to support them in the implementation of the FAIR Principles, with direct links 43 resources (more are being assessed for publication)
  • 5 FAIR National Roadshows organised as virtual events in Slovenia, Serbia, Germany, Finland and Austria engaging 300+ individuals; another 4 have been scheduled and are being organised in Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands, Greece
Conclusions

As WP leader of the communication and dissemination activities, Trust-IT conceived and implements the specific outreach campaigns that guide the engagement strategy for the project results, each one with clear objectives and custom designed actions around the target stakeholders that the project is addressing.  We ensured smooth communication within the consortium and orchestrated dissemination, exploitation, and communication activities for the project at all levels and through multiple modalities, to ensure the FAIR-IMPACT objectives and impacts are achieved.
