Brief description

In 2016, the ‘FAIR Guiding Principles for scientific data management and stewardship’ were published in Scientific Data. The authors intended to provide guidelines to improve the Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reuse of digital assets. The concept of FAIR data has been instrumental in bringing open science and research data to the attention of the research community, as well as to the broader group of stakeholders involved in facilitating, managing and disseminating research.

FAIRsFAIR supplied practical solutions for the implementation of FAIR data principles throughout the research data life cycle by fostering FAIR data culture and the uptake of good practices in making data FAIR. The FAIRsFAIR project addresses, in a 36 months timeplan, the development and concrete realisation of academic quality data management, procedures, standards, metrics and related matters, based on the FAIR principles.

Our Role

 Leading Work Package 5, Engagement, Communication and Uptake, Trust-IT had complete responsibility over:

  • Maintaining a coordinated and continued communication of the FAIRsFAIR initiative;
  • Mapping the FAIRsFAIR’s dissemination results against each target stakeholder group;
  • Installing a European Group of Fair Champions, representing the FAIRsFAIR stakeholders;
  • Installing the Synchronisation Task Force that supports the governance structure of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), the EOSC Board Working Groups and the FAIR Champions;
  • Organising focused workshops, webinars and stakeholder-tailored events, with a concertation focus on relevant initiatives that maximise project results;
  • Developing an effective strategy to facilitate adoption of FAIRsFAIR tools, recommendations and outcomes for end users and obtain user feedback.

Impact

FAIRsFAIR has established several expert groups and Trust-IT is responsible for leading the work of the group of 15 FAIR Champions, successfully guiding them to act as ambassadors to their communities, sharing the outcomes with their networks at events, distributing materials to their contact lists and pointing to relevant use cases or people, ultimately ensuring discipline and country uptake thanks to the engagement with individual experts.

Trust-IT was also part of the core team leading the FAIRsFAIR Synchronisation Force charged with the organisation of 3 main events -1 physical and 2 virtual- and complex working teams asked to debate and produce reports and deliverables on the uptake of FAIR behaviours at European level.

Trust-IT also introduced the National Roadshow Series to FAIRsFAIR, which are turning out to be a success story thanks to engagement with facilitators at national level. A total of 10 national events will be organised by February 2022.
