standards

The SNS JU Standards Tracker online platform assists researchers in the SNS JU R&I community in navigating the 5G/6G standardisation landscape, understanding the timing, methods, and rationale for their contributions, and staying updated with relevant news from standardisation committees.

By offering a comprehensive view of key stakeholders and contributions, the Standards Tracker aids in developing a European standardisation roadmap that aligns with the SNS JU Office's goals and supports vertical industries with technical requirements. The tool currently includes two main features:

  1. The standards tracker monitors the pre-standardisation efforts of the SNS R&I project community on a quarterly basis. This informs the community about activities through taxonomies and search functionalities, fostering a well-informed and collaborative environment.

  2. The tool provides a selection of telecommunications standards, guiding SNS R&I projects through the complex landscape of telecom regulations from 5G to 6G. Such features aid in defining technical requirements and maximising impact with available resources.

Future features of the Standards Tracker will include descriptions of the main SDOs working in the field with dependencies, interactive yearly graphics recapping the SNS JU R&I project's contributions to different standards, and an interactive timeline highlighting key steps toward 6G in 2030. These features will further enhance the platform's utility and keep it relevant in the fast-evolving 5G/6 G landscape.

The tool was sponsored by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme under the SNS OPS CSA project.

Our role

Trust-IT is involved in three flagship CSA initiatives linked to the final stages of 5G development and 6G transition (6GStart) as well as new 6G development horizons (SNS ICE and SNS OPS) aiming to build a collaborative environment for the 6G Smart Networks and Services (SNS) Joint Undertaking, the next public-private partnership spurring the development of 6G. Its role involves monitoring and analysing the technological KPIs and societal KVIs that SNS phase 1 projects will achieve, creating a framework for the 6G-IA Tests, Measurement and Validation Working Group (TMV WG). Second, a pre-standardisation roadmap for SNS JU R&I projects will be outlined, culminating in the Standards Tracker based on the work with 5G PPP and 6GStart. Third, engaging relevant through a Vertical Engagement Tracker online platform will collect use cases and new verticals and translate them into requirements for SNS research activities and standardisation inputs.
