Banner KPI Radars

The KPI Radars, developed as part of the 5G Infrastructure Public Private Partnership (5GPPP) 6GStart project, are designed to track and assess performance KPIs for projects funded by the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU). These tools aim to highlight EU leadership by demonstrating how well individual and collective project outcomes align with and even exceed the technical and programme KPIs. Both radars provide a comprehensive overview of target KPIs, validated over time, offering personalised access to project-specific data and facilitating the evaluation of critical inputs. The performance KPIs are established based on SNS goals and achievements, in close collaboration with the SNS JU Technical Board and relevant 6G-IA and SNS Working Groups.

  • Technical Radar: the Technical Radar encompasses a broad set of metrics designed to evaluate the technical performance and efficiency of SNS JU R&I projects. Key performance indicators include User Plane Latency, which measures the round-trip delay experienced by user data packets and reflects the network’s responsiveness and real-time capabilities. This latency can be further broken down into access, backhaul, and core network latency, each measured in milliseconds. The radar also assesses Area Traffic Capacity to evaluate the network’s geographic coverage, using metrics such as percentage coverage or specific geographical area. Other metrics include Peak Data Rate, which evaluates the network’s maximum data throughput in megabits per second (Mbps); Energy Efficiency, measuring energy consumption per unit of data throughput; Reliability, assessed through metrics like downtime or mean time between failures; and Spectral Efficiency, indicating how effectively the network uses its frequency bands. Together, these metrics collectively provide a holistic view of the network's technical capabilities and areas that may need improvement.
  • Programme Radar: the Programme Radar, on the other hand, measures the progress and impact of initiatives led by SNS JU R&I projects. It includes indicators such as Engaged Verticals, which evaluates the readiness level of developed use cases by assessing industry vertical involvement, and SME Involvement, which tracks the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises in SNS JU initiatives. The radar also measures Scientific Excellence through the number of academic publications produced. Interoperability Contributions gauge the project's influence on standards and patents related to 5G and the transition to 6G, assessed through contributions and gap analyses. Open Source Contributions evaluate the project's impact on open-source components within 6G research, while Outreach measures the influence through the number of events and initiatives organised.

These KPI Radars provide valuable tools for strategic gap analyses and program-level evaluation reports, ensuring continuous tracking and reporting of the SNS program’s main activities, milestones, and achievements. They also facilitate cross-fertilisation and networking among different R&I projects, fostering collaboration and innovation across the sector.

Our Role

Trust-IT is involved in three flagship CSA initiatives linked to the final stages of 5G development and 6G transition (6GStart) as well as new 6G development horizons (SNS ICE and SNS OPS) aiming to build a collaborative environment for the 6G Smart Networks and Services (SNS) Joint Undertaking, the next public-private partnership spurring the development of 6G. Its role involves analysing the technological KPIs and societal KVIs of SNS projects, monitoring standardisation trends among both the 5GPPP and the SNS JU R&I communities through two Standards Tracker platforms (see Standards Tracker from 5G PPP and from SNS JU), and engaging relevant vertical sectors through two vertical-oriented platforms collecting use cases and translating them into requirements for both 5G PPP and SNS JU research activities (see 5G PPP's Verticals Cartography and SNS JU Vertical Engagement Tracker).
