ECMWF - Escape2

Brief description

ESCAPE-2 develops world-class, extreme-scale computing capabilities for European operational numerical weather and climate prediction, and provide the key components for representative benchmarks to be deployed on extreme-scale demonstrators and beyond.

Our Role

Trust-IT and its controlled company COMMpla built the new ESCAPE-2 website with the following objectives:

• offering a responsive experience for users browsing on smartphones;
• enhancing the accessibility and the user experience for new and returning visitors.

Impact

ESCAPE-2 will impact European excellence for efficiently employing exascale high-performance computing in support of one of the largest societal impact areas, namely high-resolution weather and climate forecasting.

This will be possible by:

• combining frontier research on mathematics and algorithm development at extreme-scale;
• establishing weather and climate model benchmarks based on world class European prediction models;
• developing a cross-disciplinary Verification, Validation, Uncertainty Quantification (VVUQ) framework;
• producing an open-source software framework;
• developing and applying a domain-specific language (DSL) concept for the weather and climate community.

Results

The new website has been improved under several aspects:

• Responsiveness
  The first key feature for the Escape2 website is being browseable on any type of device. The new website is responsive and it automatically adapts to desktop, smartphone and tablet screen sizes.
• Search engine optimisation (SEO)
  The website has been content-wise analysed and optimised for search engines.
• Unique design
  The site has been curated down to the smallest detail with new graphics to offer users a fluid and engaging browsing experience.
