Rebalancing nutrient flows in regional ecosystems

Background

Nutrient imbalances, such as excess nitrogen and phosphorus, are threatening Europe's environmental and economic stability. These issues, stemming from agriculture, wastewater, and industry, contribute to soil degradation, water pollution, and biodiversity loss.

GREENHOOD is addressing these critical challenges with innovative nutrient management strategies. The project will demonstrate large-scale solutions across four different River basins across Europe (Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain, Norway, and Finland).

This first introductory webinar will provide an overview of GREENHOOD’s mission and regional approaches, featuring insights from demo-region coordinators on mitigating nutrient losses. It is open to farmers, public authorities, agrifood industries, wastewater treatment plants, and aquaculture operators, with a special focus on stakeholders in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Norway, and Finland.

Attendees will be able to understand the different challenges that each region is facing and will have a comprehensive overview of the possible solutions - including nutrient management strategies, regional circular economy schemes and innovative governance measures.
