European Open Source Academy with OSAwards banner

The European Open Source Academy (EOSA) will launch on January 30, 2025, marking a pivotal moment in Europe’s technological landscape with the inaugural European Open Source Awards. This initiative aims to honour individuals driving innovation in open-source software and hardware while fostering collaboration, creativity, and economic growth across the EU. Open-source technologies have become integral to Europe's economy, with annual investments exceeding €1 billion[1], positioning the EU as a global leader in sustainable, inclusive innovation.

EOSA seeks to advance open source development through its Open Source Skills and Resource Hub, offering training, knowledge-sharing platforms, and policy support. The Academy will connect developers, researchers, and policymakers to enhance Europe’s strategic autonomy and technological leadership. Funded by the European Commission and coordinated by prominent institutions, including RISE as Coordinator, Tecnalia, OFE, Fraunhofer and Barcelona Supercomputing Centre, the Academy underscores Europe’s commitment to open collaboration and public benefit.

The inaugural awards ceremony, a centrepiece of the European Open Source Week in Brussels, will spotlight transformative contributions and catalyze future advancements in open source. EOSA aspires to shape Europe’s digital future and bolster its global competitiveness by promoting open source as a foundation for digital innovation.
