OPENVERSE 2nd Expert Workshop: Narrowing down standardisation gaps for the current Virtual Worlds and Web4.0 deployment
As part of the EU project OPENVERSE, we invite you to participate to the second session of a series of exploratory workshops, on the topic of “Narrowing down standardisation gaps for the current Virtual Worlds and Web4.0 deployment”, focusing on EU strategic interests.
OPENVERSE aims to support the implementation of the “EU Strategy on the Web4.0 and Virtual Worlds”, promoting inclusive, open, sustainable, and accessible virtual worlds to enhance the European Union’s technological sovereignty. Its objectives include integrating diverse technological expertise, fostering innovation, and ensuring interoperability, privacy, and security in digital environments. The project addresses legal and ethical challenges, combining user co-creation with emerging technologies to guide future policy and industry standards.
The workshop
On August 28th, an online session, along with an in-person event at OPENGOV, the University of the Aegean’s Summer School on Digital Government, will allow participants to examine and prioritise how virtual worlds may be shaped by progress in standardisation. This workshop will nurture ongoing discussions among diverse stakeholders, preparing for the next event on October 14th, which will focus on “Digital single market barriers for SMEs and start-ups in relation to Virtual Worlds”.
Future sessions
These workshops will contribute to foresight exercises planned for early 2025, ultimately leading to policy recommendations for balancing innovation and regulatory needs. The project, with Trust-IT’s contributions, aims to foster more open and sustainable virtual worlds, driving forward the EU’s vision for a technologically sovereign future.
