About EOSC Marine

EOSC-Marine (Operationalizing the EOSC Node | European Digital Twin Ocean to Support the EU Mission Ocean & Waters) is a Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action that develops and integrates the current marine thematic candidate into the fully operational EOSC Node | European Digital Twin Ocean within the EOSC Federation. It delivers an EOSC-compliant digital environment featuring core computing capabilities, including Authentication, Authorisation and Accounting (AAA), Research Catalogues, Application Workflows, Monitoring, and Helpdesk, coupling multidisciplinary datasets, from in-situ and Earth observations, with advanced models and analytical tools, so that the Node can serve as a primary response to the EU Mission ‘Restore our Ocean and Waters’.

The project builds directly upon the achievements of Blue-Cloud 2026 and the EDITO programme, evolving their combined candidate node into the specific EDITO component that delivers FAIR, open marine data and analytical services to the entire EOSC Federation. Over 36 months (1 September 2026 to 31 August 2029), EOSC-Marine is coordinated by CNR and brings together 27 partner organisations from 8 European countries, validating the Node through key aquatic science use cases, onboarding new third-party services, and advancing its governance and sustainability in line with the EOSC Federation Handbook.

Trust-IT's role in EOSC Marine

Trust-IT leads Work Package 7, ‘Community engagement, training & exploitation’, turning the Node’s technical progress into wide, lasting impact across the EOSC cross-node ecosystem. Trust-IT designs and delivers EOSC-Marine’s Communication, Dissemination and Engagement strategy, including the project website and social media presence, and coordinates a series of outreach campaigns covering everything from general communication to training, third-party onboarding and policy dialogue. Together with its affiliated entity COMMpla, Trust-IT also manages the two Cascading Grants open calls that bring new third-party marine tools and services into the Node, and builds durable synergies with the EOSC Association’s Task Forces and the wider open science community. Trust-IT further contributes its expertise in exploitation, sustainability and governance planning.

Expected impact

EOSC-Marine is designed to turn years of investment in marine data, from Blue-Cloud 2026 to EDITO, into a permanent, EOSC-compliant pillar of Europe’s research infrastructure. By the end of the project, the Node is expected to serve more than 4,000 users, offer federated, analysis-ready data services for at least five major Research Infrastructures, and run thematic services built around Europe’s Essential Ocean Variables. A dedicated training and support programme, including a hackathon and a catalogue of online courses, aims to reach more than 500 participants, while a lasting governance and sustainability plan will guide the Node beyond the project’s own lifetime. EOSC-Marine will also onboard new third-party marine tools and services through cascading grants, and build more than ten synergies with external initiatives across the EOSC and EDITO communities.

Taken together, these outcomes are expected to strengthen Europe’s marine research community, accelerate open, FAIR access to ocean data, and support the EU Mission to Restore our Ocean and Waters well beyond EOSC-Marine’s own 36 months.
