Challenge

In Europe, standards are a significant driver for economic growth, and have the potential to contribute to successfully achieving the European Green Deal and the New Industrial Strategy for Europe.

Nevertheless, EU stakeholders do not fully exploit the opportunities of standardisation: in particular, in the field of education and research, the integration of standardisation has only begun in the last decades – receiving its endorsement both in the European Standardisation Strategy and in the Code of Practice on standardisation released in March 2023.

Currently, the number of EU’s standardisation experts is insufficient, and standardisation education is fragmented and underdeveloped at all EU education levels.

Solutions

Within this context, EDU4Standards aims at tackling this issue by increasing education in standardisation across Europe.

This project which brings together leading standardisation educators and centres to design, evaluate and pilot an innovative teaching concept of standardisation (ITCoS) for Europe.

In order to reach this goal, the project aims at implementing an all-round education strategy for standardisation.

The project will:

  • Develop and pilot an innovative teaching concept for standardisation (ITCoS) - Creating and pilot compelling approaches and materials for use in EU Higher Education.
  • Raise the profile of standardisation through Academic Standardisation Days and events - Deliver a roadshow of events on standardisation at EU Higher Education Institutes.
  • Increase higher education courses on standardisation - Broaden the base of institutions, teachers and courses which include standardisation.
