Brief description
GREENHOOD aims to address the critical issue of nutrient imbalances within regional ecosystems by delivering holistic, sustainable, and zero-pollution solutions. The project focuses on limiting nitrogen and phosphorus emissions while rebalancing nutrient flows within ecological boundaries.
The imbalanced nutrient flows are causing major impacts on human and environmental
health, intensifying biodiversity loss and greenhouse gas emissions, compromising food security, and resulting in significant economic losses.
Spanning 48 months, GREENHOOD aligns with the European Green Deal and the Zero Pollution Action Plan. It targets emissions across critical sectors, including agriculture, aquaculture, and bioenergy.
Five countries are participating in four demonstrators (demo regions), each representing different cases of unbalanced regions and focusing on diverse emitting hotspots. More specifically, the demo regions are:
- Ebro River Basin in Spain;
- The Rhine, Meuse and Scheldt River Basins in the lowlands of Belgium and the Netherlands;
- The Archipelago Sea Basin in Finland;
- The Trondheim Fjord Basin in Norway.
These regions serve as real-world cases to develop and validate region-specific solutions for integrated nutrient management.
Our Role
Within GREENHOOD, Trust-IT Services brings its expertise in communication, community building, and event coordination to play a key role in the project’s success - with the following roles:
- Leading WP1, “Co-definition of basin INMAP’s”, with the aim to co-define nutrient management strategies and multi-actor transition pathways. This includes organising stakeholder engagement activities in the demo regions and developing strategic documents that guide regional actors in implementing integrated nutrient management practices.
- Supporting WP6, “Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation”: In collaboration with COMMpla, Trust-IT Services drives dissemination and communication activities, leading task 6.1 on dissemination and communication strategy. This includes:
- Developing and implementing a comprehensive dissemination and communication (D&C) strategy.
- Designing D&C brand guidelines, communication materials, and launching the project’s website.
- Creating newsletters, social media content, and monitoring the effectiveness of outreach efforts.
- Organising tailored dissemination activities in each regional demonstrator.
Impact
GREENHOOD is positioned to become a flagship initiative for nutrient management, demonstrating effective strategies to rebalance nitrogen and phosphorus flows and reduce emissions.
The project will advance sustainable agricultural practices and environmental protection by implementing region-specific solutions tested at TRL8. It promotes science-to-policy activities, offering evidence-based recommendations to enhance regulatory frameworks and stakeholder compliance.
The project will leave a lasting legacy, enabling other European regions to adopt integrated nutrient management action plans and contributing to biodiversity restoration, climate change mitigation, and the European Green Deal goals.
Funding
GREENHOOD has received co-funding from the Horizon Europe Programme under grant agreement Nº 101181712.
